NETHERLANDS: HEALTH COUNCIL REPORT ON BIOINITIATIVE REPORT
|
| |
In an advisory report, published September 2nd, 2008, the Electromagnetic Fields Committee of the Netherlands Health Council gives its opinion as to the scientific value of the BioInitiative report. The Committee concludes that this report is not an objective and balanced reflection of the current state of scientific knowledge and does not provide any grounds for revising the current views as to the risks of exposure to electromagnetic fields. The Committee gives a further critical statement on the BioInitiative Report, whose authors had uttered doubts in it about the protection function of the international limits for electromagnetic fields. Before the EMF-Net of the European Union, the Federal Office ofr Radiation Protection, the Danish Health Office and the Electric Power Rsearch Institute (EPRI) had reviewed the report and had got similar results as the Dutch Government.

EC Report on the limitation of the exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields
|
| |
The EC has published the report from the Commission on the application of Council Recommendation of 12 July 1999 (1999/519/ec) on the limitation of the exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields (0 hz to 300 ghz) COM(2008) 532 final - 1.9.2008 based on the recommendations of the Scientific Committee for Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR). In conclusion, the Commission intends to continue monitoring closely the application of this Recommendation, promoting the development of scientific knowledge on key aspects of the potential health impact of EMF, re-assess the validity of the Recommendation in the light of any relevant new scientific development and take appropriate action should the need arise. http://euroalert.net

BELGIUM: EC is planning to invite scientists to join its Scientific Risk Assessment Advisory Structure of Scientific Committees, Pool of Advisors, and Database of Experts
|
| |
The Scientific Risk Assessment Advisory Structure will provide the European Commission with high quality and independent scientific advice on matters related to consumer safety, public health, and the environment. A Decision establishing the Advisory Structure is expected to be adopted by the Commission soon. It will replace the Commission Decision 2004/210/EC setting up Committees in the field of consumer safety, public health and the environment. To that end the Commission will soon launch a call for expression of interest. This communiqué is published as preliminary information only. SOURCE: FGF INFOLINE, SEPT. 2008

Kucinich to FCC: Consider Health Effects of RF Radiation in new Wireless Devices, 3 November 2008
|
| |
On November 3, Representative Dennis Kucinich, Chairman of the Domestic Policy Subcommittee, sent a letter asking FCC Chairman Kevin Martin to consider the potential health effects before voting on an Order that would authorize the use of the ‘White Space’ spectrum for wireless devices operating in the home. Skeptics have expressed concern that the use of the White Space spectrum would result in the repeated and long-term exposure to RF radiation, to which the human health effects are not adequately known. On November 4th, the FCC adopted the Second Report and Order, which allowed such use. http://domesticpolicy.oversight.house.gov/documents/20081106162519.pdf
